Kratos image work Process

I haven't had time to do any painting (except for work stuff) today, so I thought I'd dig around and see if there's anything I could post up.  I didn't want to rehash the God of War images, since you're probably tired of those same images by now, but I did find a rare image that I actually saved iterations of the work.  This isn't how I work most of the time, but... that seems to change alot!  I usually try to work the entire image at once, but in these God of War images, where the main character was crucial to getting legal approval for the image, I focused on him in the initial stages (I think;p  it was quite awhile ago).  I knew that I wanted my color scheme to be in the warmer tones, so that made it easier to start with color right away.  I like going right into color because there's something fresh about the way color also seems to influence my values I choose, rather than starting from black and white.  However, in most cases, for concept art, working in black and white first seems to be more efficient, and less distracting for the director to look at---sometimes, color in the concept can be dominating the viewer's senses, and it seems an unfair comparison for concept images unless all the images were also of the same colors and color arrangement.

NUCLEUS GALLERY (God of War) SHOW

Hey guys, I apologize for not responding to anyone or posting anything in a while.  I haven't had internet connection for the past month and a half, so it's been difficult keeping up-to-date on my blog.  I finally got caught up with the 21st century and got internet at home!  I kinda miss tranquil prehistoric days, but I think I could get used to this internet-at-home thing.  I should be keeping my blog a bit  more updated now... i hope.

Here are some images I did for the God of War show at Nucleus.  It was a pretty crazy project, since I was in the middle of messy moving situation, I didn't get started on the images until a couple days before the due date---I didn't get to sleep much during the time.  Have you ever worked 'til the weee hours of the morning, rather pleased with yourself on your progress, only to wake up discovering that someone had vandelized your beautiful artwork--- only to realize a moment later that you did it yourself while in a state of narcosis due to sleep deprivation?  hehe, that happened--- should have just gone to sleep...

Not sure if you got to check out the show, but I heard it was rediculous!  The line went down the street around the corner at some point.  Wish I could have made it---I had a previous engagement in Japan--- definitely not compainin' though-- it was an amazing trip--- took lots of pics, ate a ton and a half of sushi and sashimi, had my first experience with sumo, and lost my wallet---pretty full experience:]  I'll post some pics as soon as I organize them a bit.

These images were based after first and second Kings in the old testament.  I hope to do a graphic novel on it at some point--some great characters and events to illustrate on that era.  I thought the gallery show would be a perfect time to start getting my feet wet on the subject matter---not sure of style or anything yet.   Hope you enjoy them!

Concept Art Uploaded!

Zeusflat_resize_2

Here's a slew of Concept art from GOW and GOW2.  Hope you enjoy them.  I've been wanting to put some of these up for the past few years, so it feels really good to finally put some of the pieces from GOW up on line!  There are some other images that I wanted to show the GOW fans, but I can't find them.  I'll put them up if they ever surface.

I haven't exactly told anyone about this site yet, just a few friends.  Part of me wants to tell everyone I know to come visit, but then, if I do that, it feels like I'm inviting everyone to a party, and as a host, I need to feed everyone and give out free T-shirts or something.  Anyhow, enjoy the new images posted in  "Photo Albums".

Below are a couple concepts originally done for Clotho (Sister of Fate 3 in GOW2) that weren't used, but you can see some of the direction we were playing with at the time.
